EsoBB
esoBB (formerly known as esoForum for Projects) is a light-weight forum application written in the PHP scripting language. Available under the GNU General Public License, esoBB is free and open-source.
Features of esoBB include the ability to categorize conversations (threads) by tags, a powerful search controller and a flat message structure (similar to phpBB) with support for quoting.
History
The esoBB project was started in March 2018 as a fork of the esoTalk forum software by the name esoTalk. By November 16 2018, the domain "esotalk.net" was turned into a web forum named esoForum, which later became Esoteric Chat. The forum software originally served the purpose of a forum for Esoteric Chat and later developed into a fully-functional software package. A pre-release version of esoProjects was made available on March 19 2021. After the forum began advertising on 4chan and other sites, several new members made contributions to the software code base.
esoBB delta 1
esoBB 1.0.0d1 (delta 1) was released on January 17 2022, making several improvements to the pre-release version and bug fixes.
esoBB delta 2
esoBB 1.0.0d2 (delta 2) was released on May 12 2023. It is the biggest update to the forum software ever made, and contains support for PHP 8.0 (commit 44105ba) in addition to the MySQLi (MySQL improved) driver (commit ad016b4). This makes setting up the form much easier, since the legacy driver is no longer required. Various quality of life improvements were also made, such as the addition of hooks for individual forum posts and the ability to use external SMTP settings.
esoBB delta 3
esoBB delta 3 is planned to be released sometime around July 2024. It will primarily focus on revising the administrator settings and the addition of a panel (similar to the Debug plugin) for comparing user information.
