Ezoteric and the Ezo- prefix (e.g. "ezodemocracy") pertain to an esoteric religion founded by Walter, the self-proclaimed "ideological crusader" of Esoteric Chat. "The Ezo ideology," as he describes it, can arguably be described as more of a cult, because Ezo itself does not explain the nature of religion. As such, some Homobros and even followers of Gop follow various mantic practices made popular by Walter and his influence over the forum.

Adolf Hitler and Alfred both made a splinter Discord community named Ezodemocracy, the name being in reference to the Ezo ideology.

Ezo is sometimes used to refer directly to Esoteric Chat, however almost always pertains to the forum as a literal forum where people communicate philosophical virtues, rather than as a website. Walter has previously stated that the website is simply one of many ways to interact with Ezo, reasoning that it exerts a force upon all things within nature.

The scientific accuracy of this belief system was once criticized heavily by Dwight Schrute, among others. Michael Moriarty is said to have privately claimed that the ideology is nothing more than "crack nonsenae" used to "couch the forum within some kind of meaningful belief system when it is, in fact, just an Internet website." Others, such as admin, do not acknowledge the belief and instead regard it as regular enthusiasm for the forum.

Some of the more strict Ezoteric adherents are in direct opposition with the Clydeian Rouge because they, unlike the Clydeians, firmly believe in the elevated spiritual status of Simon Zerner, who they claim to not be dead and instead "ascended into the astral plane in which DataLink and physical reality are one and the same; where the forum's database represents true nature." (This quote has been attributed to numerous authors; it is since believed to have originated from within the DataLink organization as a [diversity statement].)
